No one really gets you ready for the moment you realize something important.
Your kids are watching everything.
Not just the big things.
Not just what you say.
They notice how you react, how you deal with stress, how you talk to yourself, and how you get through tough times.
And wow, my kids?
They reflect me in ways I wasn’t ready for.
JJ, who has a speech delay, has taught me patience like nothing else. Sometimes I want to rush him, finish his sentences, or speed things up, but he makes me slow down. He shows me that growth happens on its own schedule, not mine. In those moments, I have to ask myself if I’m being patient or letting my frustration show.
And then there’s Mia… my smart mouth twin 😂
Whew. That girl will say something, and I just pause like… “now wait a minute… that sounded real familiar.”
Because it is.
She mirrors my tone, my expressions, my attitude—everything. And sometimes I have to laugh, but other times? It’s a wake-up call. It makes me realize that the way I show up matters more than anything I try to teach.
Because kids don’t just listen.
They become what they see.
There have been times when I needed to correct myself before correcting them. Times when I had to apologize. Times when I had to grow right along with them.
Honestly, that’s the humbling part of motherhood that no one really talks about. Your kids will hold up a mirror to you.
your strengths, your habits, your triggers, your growth areas… all of it.
But here’s the beautiful part…
They also reflect your love.
Your resilience.
Your effort.
Your healing.
So even on the days when I see things in them that make me go “whew 😅,” I remind myself—this is an opportunity. Not to be perfect, but to be better. To grow. To lead by example, even when it’s hard.
Because I’m not just raising them…
I’m raising me too.
Until next time—
“Keep learning, keep growing, and keep becoming who you were created to be.”
With Love,
The Really Real Mom Hallie
